This site is under construction. Meanwhile you can read my essay Dreams are made of porcelain (Really, Really) (really) or have a look on my CV or write me an email katherina.gorodynska@gmail.com (I am happy to hear from you). I don’t have instagram, but I co-organise the interdisciplinary literature- and performance festival in Cologne (DE) auftakt festival . In the back are 15 out of 75 engraved tiles that are part of the performance with which I graduated with a MFA in Fine Art and Design from Sandberg Instituut, Gerrit Rietveld Academie (in 2023) The setting will be an almost empty room. There will definitely be a new floor, but no carpet, for sure no carpet. Each day of the exhibition performers enter the space to cover its floor with white tiles. In a cycle of building up and building down, the unfinished shapes of a new floor slowly create a setting for a multilingual dialogue to unfold. A room that still does not exist in a house that is still to come becomes a container for desires. At some point someone says: Not only our memories but the things we have forgotten are housed. And someone else: I have swallowed my geography. The performance and site-specific installation started from a research into the Soviet game Sekretiki that translated to English means Little Secrets where children dig holes into grounds and hide their most colorful objects in pits. Living on wheels, it is waiting to be activated by a group of saboteurs, wanderers, bums, émigrés, refugees, deportees, ramblers, strolling players. They hope to be finished soon so that they can lean their backs against the wall. Will they leave traces in the empty room? Some layers of text and aging marks–fragments from embroidery and lace are already trying to make their way to the surface. And, sorry to ask, but what was the artist’s name again– was it Katherina, Kateryna or Katya?
